Assessments

The purpose of assessing a student's progress is to communicate to the parents how well the students are progressing in relation to the learning outcomes in the curriculum. Teachers gather evidence of what students are able to do in each sphere of learning outcomes, evaluate their progress and report to the parents. This process enables us to monitor student's learning curve and identify what action, if any, is needed to help students succeed. In any given day, we many have numerous personal interactions with our students. Each of these complex interactions must be interpreted immediately. We have developed a repertoire of observational strategies to continually monitor the student's progress and make necessary adjustments during teaching.

In any given day, we many have numerous personal interactions with our students. Each of these complex interactions must be interpreted immediately. We have developed a repertoire of observational strategies to continually monitor the student's progress and make necessary adjustments during teaching. Every day, teachers gather information and data on student achievement and assess them to gain information about future instructional needs, depending on their strengths and weaknesses. Student assessment and evaluation includes teacher designed activities, worksheets and daily observations. The lesson plan includes well-designed methods of evaluation. They determine the achievement in one learning sequence and the readiness for the next. Well designed worksheets, direct observation and student-teacher conversation provides us with data to measure progress. All skills are tested in all the terms but the same criterion may be tested through activity in one term, worksheet in the next and may be through daily observation in another term. However, the mode of testing can also be repeated for a particular criterion depending on the requirement. This is a continuous and consistent process.

Hence, the Academic Assessment, which does not lead to stress among students, is an important task for teaching and learning process. Assessment pattern has been developed after conducting research of various international standards together with a balance of the CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive evaluation) guidelines. This is for classes IV and V only since there are no formal assessments for Nursery to class III. For classes IV and V, the academic year has been divided into two semesters and there are two formative assessments in each. The second formative assessment in each term comprises written weekly assessment. At the end of each semester, there is a summative assessment. Formative assessment is a process used by a teacher to continuously monitor student's progress in a non-threatening and supportive environment. It is diagnostic and remedial. On the other hand, summative assessment indicates and measures how much a student has learned. It is for certification purposes. There is a separate grading system for scholastic and co-scholastic subjects.
